01 / The operating premise

The work starts where a buyer’s brief meets the reality of a supplier.

UK China Trade supports product businesses with practical sourcing, supplier communication, quality planning and order follow-up in China. The focus is clear: translate commercial requirements into actions factories can understand, execute and evidence.

02 / Experience behind the work

China experience is only useful when it lives inside the work.

UK China Trade is led by Carl Ballantine, a China-based sourcing and trade professional with more than 10 years of on-the-ground experience across project management, senior trade-company operations, AGM and lithium-battery sales, supplier-facing account management and international order execution.

Carl helps UK product businesses turn China sourcing requirements into clear factory, supplier and shipment actions. His work combines practical trade, project-management and battery-sector experience with direct client-agent work since 2018.

How do I tell whether a supplier is a factory or a trading company?

Confirm the legal entity, manufacturing address, product capability, key processes and outsourced steps. A trading company can still be useful, but a buyer should understand who controls the product and production work.

What should I have in place before I pay a deposit?

Align the written specification, agreed sample, commercial quote, MOQ, lead time, payment stages, packaging, inspection plan and shipment terms before production begins.

Can you help with my existing Chinese supplier?

Yes. Existing supplier work can include clarifying a specification, chasing evidence, planning quality checks, resolving a production issue or bringing structure to regular orders and factory communication.

How is paid sourcing work scoped after the free consultation?

After the initial 30-minute call, we identify the decision or deliverable that needs support: for example supplier shortlisting, factory verification, product sourcing, quality follow-up, existing-order support or Guangzhou meeting preparation. You then receive a written scope covering the objective, activities, timing, information needed and agreed fee before any paid work begins. There is no obligation to proceed after the initial call.

Do I need to visit China or attend the Canton Fair to source well?

Not in every case. A fair visit is most valuable when it supports a defined product brief, supplier shortlist or factory meeting plan rather than broad browsing.

Who is responsible for product compliance in the UK?

The importing business must understand and meet its own UK market obligations. UK China Trade can help collect supplier information and support a quality plan, but it does not replace specialist legal, certification or testing advice.
